Sir Richard Attenborough won the Oscars for Best Picture and Best Director for this movie, even though he had expected, and hoped, that Steven Spielberg would win for E.T. - L'extra-terrestre (1982). Attenborough worked with Spielberg on Jurassic Park (1993) and The Lost World: Jurassic Park (1997), while Sir Ben Kingsley appeared in Schindler's List (1993), which finally won Spielberg the Best Director and Best Picture Oscars.
