Though not shown nor mentioned in the film, Elvis Presley had a romantic interest in one of his backup singers from The Sweet Inspirations, Myrna Smith. He would often flirt with her. At one point, Elvis wanted to start a romantic relationship with Myrna. But she refused to get romantically involved with him due to her not wanting a potentially romantic relationship between them to ruin their friendship and due to his philandering. Nevertheless, they remained close friends until his passing. In the time between, Myrna got into a relationship with and married one of Elvis' associates, Jerry Schilling. The couple's marriage lasted for several years before they divorced.
