Dino De Laurentiis, who had produced Manhunter - Frammenti di un omicidio (1986), passed on this movie because Manhunter (1986) had flopped. He gave the rights away to Orion Pictures for free . He then went on to co-produce Hannibal (2001) and Red Dragon (2002).
