The Great Owl's limping walk was inspired by his voice actor, John Carradine, who was partly crippled by arthritis when he came to record his lines. Impressed by the dramatic presence of the frail, elderly actor, Don Bluth imagined the Owl as an ancient but powerful creature limping on arthritic feet.
