Another connection between "Cheers" and this series is the settings of each series. "Cheers" was set in Boston, while "Becker" was set in The Bronx. Both locations are the respective home cities of rival Major League Baseball teams the Boston Red Sox and New York Yankees. Danson's character on "Cheers", Sam Malone, was a former Red Sox pitcher (numerous other references to both teams and their rivalry are made throughout the series).
