After seeing this film, a fan on Twitter proclaimed Jordan Peele the greatest horror director of all time. Peele responded "I love your enthusiasm but I will just not tolerate any John Carpenter slander!" Keith David starred in two of Carpenter's best-loved alien films, La cosa (1982) and Essi vivono (1988), and appears in this film as OJ and Emerald's father.
