The original sound of the movie was of poor quality: aggressive, unclear, narrow. This was partly due to experimentation of Dolby which just appeared and the difference of point of views between Joseph Losey and the musical crew. It partly explained the movie's relative critical failure at the time. In 2006, for Mozart's 250th birthday, the studio decided to remaster the sound, which is now of acceptable quality.
