James McAvoy played Professor Charles Xavier in the X-Men prequel trilogy. Xavier's son in the comics, David Haller/Legion, is a mutant with dissociative identity disorder. Legion had its own on-screen debut in Legion (2017) the very same year this film had a wide release.
