During the run of the show, Joe Conley, who played shopkeeper Ike Godsey, ran three real estate agencies, which he had established in 1961. Despite his status as a supporting player, and in contrast with the down-home, folksy character he played, Conley was quite rich, far wealthier than any of the show's main stars or producers.
