In the "Flowers of Evil" episode three lesbians running an elder care facility wind up sedating and killing most of the patients, patients they would later rob as well. This is very homophobic plot concept in and of itself. And calling these three gay female antagonists "evil" is also plenty homophobic. At the end of the episode Pepper tells one of the suspects, "I've seen what that kind of love does to people", and she told a story of a gay roommate in college who basically self-destructed because of a girl crush she was having. And Pepper used this as an implicit cautionary tale to the suspect to not self-destruct the same way; and encouraged her to rat out her lesbian lover as a way of freeing herself from all this self-destruction. It was an extremely homophobic moment in a very homophobic episode. Gay rights groups rightfully protested this episode after it aired; and NBC never aired it again in reruns after the initial airing.
