After watching Eraserhead - La mente che cancella (1977), Lucas offered the director's seat to David Lynch, but Lynch turned it down, on the grounds that his surrealistic directing style would not match Lucas' vision. Lynch eventually would go on to direct the massive flop Dune (1984), another science fiction epic.
