Charlie is a state police motorcycle officer. Police motorcycles officers do not get on or off their motorcycles from the left side. They do both from the right side. The reason for this is so they are on the curb side, away from oncoming traffic. This is a safety consideration, especially in the event the motorcycle's kickstand breaks, or does not properly engage. If that were to happen and the rider is getting on or off the motorcycle from the left side, the rider could be knocked out into the path of oncoming traffic.
