Alan Parker specifically requested legendary still photographer Mary Ellen Mark to do a separate portrait session with Barry Miller for the MGM publicity department, as she worked on over a hundred film sets during her illustrious career and had just recently finished shooting still photographs on the set of Francis Coppola's "Apocalypse Now" taking pictures of Marlon Brando on location in The Philippines. She was also a member of the prestigious Magnum Photo agency, the very same agency that represented renowned photographer Dennis Stock, who had taken the iconic photographs of James Dean for Life Magazine in the 1950's.
