Originally, Susumu Kodai was to be seen with spectacles, in homage to Noboru Oyama of Leiji Matsumoto's previous work "Oidon Otaku" (a comic about the everyday trials of Oyama, a university student), but this was rejected as the sponsors wanted Kodai to resemble singer Hiromi Gô.
