Johnny Knoxville has said in interviews that he drew inspiration for some of the stunts from cartoons such as "Tom and Jerry" (1965) and Looney Tunes. The scene where he blindfolds himself, for example, comes directly from an episode of "Tom and Jerry" (1965) where Tom does much the same thing. He has also acknowledged a debt to Wile E. Coyote in the scene with the rocket.
