Liam Neeson was nominated for Best Actor for this film, but lost out to Tom Hanks for Philadelphia (1993), whose role was originally offered to Daniel Day-Lewis, also nominated that year for Nel nome del padre (1993). Neeson was set to work with Spielberg again on Lincoln (2012), but dropped out and was replaced by Day-Lewis who, like Ben Kingsley, had appeared in Gandhi (1982). Day-Lewis ended up winning Best Actor for playing Lincoln, who was distantly related to Hanks.
