Henry Thomas (young Hugh Crain) would go on to play the Bartender/Jack Torrence in Doctor Sleep (2019). Doctor Sleep author Stephen King is an admitted fan of Shirley Jackson, whose novel The Haunting of Hill House in part inspired his work on Doctor Sleep's predecessor The Shining. Doctor Sleep similarly deals with a man, traumatized by ghostly events as a child, ultimately returning to the location inhabited by numerous ghosts. Thomas' character is the patriarch in both adaptations, though in King's movie Jack is a ghost who never left.
