Because both this series and Crime Story (1986) were produced by Michael Mann, both series often used the same writers, directors, supporting actors, and guest stars. Dennis Farina, who made three appearances as crime lord Albert Lombard, became the star of "Crime Story" as series lead, Lt. Michael Torello.
