The car used in the movie was a 1980 Pontiac Firebird Turbo Trans-Am. by 1980 Pontiac had dropped all of its big engine options for the Firebird. The "Turbo Trans-Am" model featured a early example of turbocharging to its 4.9litre (301ci) engine. Thanks to low octane gas at the time and an ineffective fuel system the car performed woefully in comparison to first movie's 1978 6.6 litre (400ci) car and required modification to get to enough performance from it.
