In the Blu-ray notes and interview, co-writer Michael Ronald Ross says he and his co-writer Anthony Overman first learned the film had been made when they got into a writer's guild dispute over whether they wrote the script or Jo Heims did. Fortunately they had their earlier script drafts, so Jo soon withdrew from the dispute knowing she couldn't win.
