In adulthood, Kate mentions being a Buffy l'ammazzavampiri (1997) fan. A poster of Buffy - L'ammazzavampiri (1992) hangs on the wall of her teenage self's bedroom. "This Is Us" is filmed around the same California areas "Buffy" was filmed, thus sharing some filming locations.
