This movie has been considered by a few to be a remake or updated version of Una pallottola spuntata (1988). In both movies, the main protagonists Frank Drebin, an incompetent police officer and Johnny English, an incompetent spy become suspicious of the main antagonists, Vincent Ludwig, a respected businessman and Pasqual Sauvage, a French businessman, when Frank's partner Officer Nordberg is gunned down and the Crown Jewels are stolen and in both movies, Frank and Johnny discover that Ludwig and Sauvage are criminals and they uncover their schemes which both concern Queen Elizabeth.
