The role of Gandalf was previously played in The Hobbit (1977) by John Huston, whose father Walter Huston played Abraham Lincoln in Il cavaliere della libertà (1930). Lee Pace appeared in this movie and Lincoln (2012), which featured a character named "W.N. Bilbo".
