Towards the end of the film, the Riddler is incarcerated in Arkham Asylum. The asylum is a prominent element of the Batman comics, a psychiatric hospital for the criminally insane. It serves as the primary residence and holding facility for members of Batman's rogue's gallery. It was introduced in Batman #258 (October 1974), created by writer Dennis O'Neil and artist Irv Novick. The asylum's name is a reference to the fictional city of Arkham, Massachusetts, which was the setting of several works by H. P. Lovecraft.
