A sliding stop is a maneuver used on a reining horse event. In reining, horse and rider are judged on how well they ride a pattern on a light rein (minimal cues), including turnarounds, rundowns (required movement prior to a sliding stop), rollbacks (180 degree change in direction), flying lead (switch in the lead front and hind legs, left or right, in mid-air) changes between fast and slow circles. Some call it "Western Dressage".
