The notice "No Cowboys!" in the rooming house indicated the popularity of western films at the time. As talking pictures grew in popularity, so did the advent of singing cowboys, and Hollywood was home to numerous studios cranking out these films. Scores of rootin' tootin' cowpokes swarmed into town for extra work. Their stories can be seen in the 1975 film "Hearts of the West."
