The studio tried to recruit director Daniel Stern to have Macaulay Culkin play Henry, because of the actors history with Culkin from the Home Alone franchise, but Culkin was unavailable because his father demanded he star in The Good Son (1993) as a condition for 20th Century Fox greenlighting Home Alone 2: Lost in New York (1992). Culkin had to start filming for the latter movie forcing Stern to go with Thomas Ian Nicholas instead. Coincidentally, Culkin's character's name in The Good Son was also Henry and as with this movie and Home Alone that film was distributed by 20th Century Fox.
