Originally, there was going to be a massive army of Insecticons (a faction of insectoid Decepticons in Transformers (1984)) that would merge to form the Hive, (inspired by the Swarm from the 1980s "Transformers" comics). This was changed, as it would have been too expensive, and not as spectacular as Devastator. In the end, only one Insecticon appears, seen tracking down Sam and Mikaela in Operation Firestorm. The concept was not scrapped though, but evolved into the Microcons-Reedman sequence.
