The Star Wars website, under its section "The Cinema of Star Wars," notes plot similarities between this film and Guardia del corpo (1992). Most notably, the two leads (Anakin/Padme, Frank/Rachel) are brought together because he is tasked with protecting her from assassination attempts, only to fall in love with her in the process. In the latter film, the assassin turns out to be a man named Portman, and Carrie Fisher's real mother, Debbie Reynolds, made a cameo as herself. It was also written by Lawrence Kasdan, who also wrote L'Impero colpisce ancora (1980) and Il ritorno dello Jedi (1983).
