The original English dub was dubbed by Troma (more infamous for their horror and horror adjacent films) and distributed on video tape by 20th Century Fox in the United States. Later (2008) Disney got the license to most of Studio Ghibli's work and redubbed the film. Once the rights lapsed it was distributed by GKids and Shout! Factory, who kept the Disney dub.
