Lieutenant "Mac" McReynolds (Jeff MacKay) was killed off in season three because MacKay was cast to co-star in I predatori dell'idolo d'oro (1982). When that show was cancelled after one season, MacKay asked Donald P. Bellisario to bring him back to the show, despite Mac being killed by a car-bomb in the Ferrari meant for Magnum. MacKay returned in season five as Jim Bonnick, a doppelganger of Mac and a serial con man. MacKay also appeared as Mac's ghost in a few episodes.
