It has been revealed in the Blade Runner movies that non-Replicant animals and other organic materials, primarily wood, are incredibly hard to find and thus cost an incredible amount of money. This is also referenced in another Ridley Scott production, Alien: Covenant, where the main character's husband wanted to travel to an off-world colony to build a log cabin by a lake. The main character, Daniels, reveals that the wood her husband has stored is real wood during a scene with a synthetic humanoid named Walter. If Daniels' husband, Jake Branson, was able to buy wood for a real log cabin, he was about as rich as Niander Wallace.
