Doctor Yueh's forehead diamond tattoo indicates that he is a product of the Suk Medical School. Jessica mentioned it (in a voice over) that it is the mark of "Imperial Conditioning". This conditioning makes Suk Doctors incapable of willingly taking human life. Thus, they cannot be bought, blackmailed, or bribed into assisting with assassinations, for example. This makes them trustworthy enough to even treat an Emperor. In the extended cut, Piter explains that he broke Yueh's imperial conditioning (making it possible for him to betray Leto). He does not explain how. The original book also leaves it vague. Later books written by Frank Herbert's son, Brian Herbert with the assistance of Kevin J. Anderson propose that the Harkonnens had abducted Yueh's wife, thus discovering that keeping a loved one hostage is a way to break the Suk conditioning. This explanation, however, has been met with criticism, explaining that this was exactly the kind of situation that the Suk conditioning is supposed to prevent.
