Around the time period of the February 9, 1958 telecast, twenty-six-year old Tab Hunter was riding high. A year before, Hunter had scored a worldwide number one recording hit with "Young Love," and after "Hans Brinker" was to start filming the Warner Bros. movie version of the Broadway hit musical "Damn Yankees" - which featured the original entire Broadway cast performing their original stage roles.
