The character of Reg Holdsworth, introduced in 1989, was supposed to be a short-term character, with Curly Watts quickly replacing him as the manager of Bettabuy. However, he quickly proved popular with viewers and, after actor Ken Morley had fulfilled his commitments to the sitcom 'Allo 'Allo (1982), he joined Coronation Street as a full-time cast member.
