The film takes place three weeks after the events of Resident Evil: Retribution (2012), despite being released four years later. It is never revealed what became of Jill Valentine (Sienna Guillory), Ada Wong (Bingbing Li), Leon S. Kennedy (Johann Urb) and Becky (Aryana Engineer), who all survived the previous movie but are absent from this one, so it is implied that they all died off-screen during the battle of the White House (the novelization is more explicit in their fates). In reality, Engineer didn't return because she outgrew her role, Li had other commitments, and Guillory wasn't asked.
