Mirabel's family last name is Madrigal. It is a Latin word that it means "mother" or "maternal". It comes from Renaissance where it was originally the "cantus matricale", a musical composition of some voices singing together, being later deformed to Italian as "madrigale" and finally as madrigal to the rest of Europe, specially in United Kingdom, France and Spain. The selection of the last name is not casual, since the movie revolves around the sense of being a family, and the figure of a mother who protects her beloved beings.
