According to Margot Kidder in interviews there was much discussion by the producers about Superman's package; and how much should it be augmented by padding or a codpiece; or should it be decreased. During the filming of the flying scenes, Margot Kidder got bored hanging around and would tap Sumperman's member, producing a metallic ding.
