Midway through the intro that was used throughout the first three seasons, Jessica Fletcher can be seen waving at a 50-foot fishing trawler as it steams nearby. The boat in question was built in 1971 by the Makela Brothers Boat Works in Fort Bragg, California, and named the Gayle after new owner Charlie White's wife.Gayle was sold to White's son Mitch in 1986, and then to the Bettencourt family in 1997. Given a five-foot extension by the son of the original builders in 2009, she was sold once more in 2017. She now sails for fisherman Kyle Pemberton as the Moriah Lee out of Half Moon Bay, California.
