Spalding Gray - whose 1996 filmed monologue Gray's Anatomy (1996) was directed by Steven Soderbergh - plays a character who takes his own life. Gray would later take his own life in 2004. Soderbergh would later pay his respects by making a posthumous documentary about his life, And Everything Is Going Fine (2010). Gray talked about his experience working on King of the Hill in his monologue "It's a Slippery Slope" and implies that he took the role solely because of the suicide scene. Being a depressed suicidal most of his life, Gray liked the idea of committing a fake suicide first as a mental/artistic experiment.
