In Thor (2011), Odin mentioned that Thor's hammer Mjölnir was "forged inside a dying star". Some fans took this as an indication that Mjölnir was made from neutronium, an extremely heavy substance that is sometimes left when big stars die (which would account for Mjölnir's extreme weight). The revelation that Mjölnir was forged in Nidavellir takes the metaphor even further, since Nidavellir is literally a forge inside the remains of a dead star.
