Something non-New Yorkers may not be aware of is that Madison Square Garden occupied the above-ground space that used to be Pennsylvania Station (which was demolished in 1963). While the station was torn down, the train services still continue beneath the ground. This is the connection between the underground train tracks and the Garden.
