The executives at Kids' WB! had the creative team develop the TV series to be a children's series and to sell toys. Like Batman (1992), Le avventure di Superman (1996), Static Shock (2000), Justice League (2001), and Justice League Unlimited (2004), this was one of the few children's TV series that was actually not a children's TV series. At Comic-Con 2006, Bruce Timm stated at a panel that, even though the rating for the series was TV-Y7-FV, a rating normally designated for children's programming, he and the creative team knew that it was TV-PG, a rating assigned for TV series targeted at general and adult audiences (much like I Simpson (1989)'s target audience). The creative team had always wanted to tell good stories and explore the themes and characters from the source material, and making a TV series that was limited to children was not something to which they wanted to be bound to. In the end, all of the TV series of the DCAU had gained a great adult following and turned out to be TV series for all ages.
