From the moment the show was first announced, there was speculation that the titular character would actually be Boba Fett, and not just a substitute character wearing similar armor. Though Jon Favreau denied this, some fans still held on to the idea, believing they were lying to preserve a big reveal. However, the appearance of the Mandalorian's parents in a flashback in the pilot would seem to disprove this for good, since his origins as portrayed in Star Wars: Episodio II - L'attacco dei cloni (2002) are way different. The final nail in the coffin to the theory is that the Mandalorian's real name is revealed to be Din Djarin, and that Boba Fett is revealed in The Mandalorian: Chapter 9: The Marshal (2020) to have remained on Tatooine after his encounter with the Sarlacc pit.
