When Superman saves Lois Lane from a helicopter crash atop The Daily Planet building, an actual New York City helicopter building crash caused their banning on buildings' helipads when a Sikorsky S-61L killed four (including movie director Michael Findlay) on the roof of the then Pan Am Building. The filming schedule for the movie was between March 28, 1977, and July of 1978, while the New York Airways helicopter accident was on May 16, 1977, shortly after 5:33 PM. The flight was a return flight to John F. Kennedy Airport.
