Post-production went on right up until the day before the film's world premiere. Because time was so short, all the prints of the film were shipped "wet" - fresh from the duplication lab - and were airlifted directly from a warehouse on the Paramount Studios lot as they were assembled. Rewrites took place daily during filming. One reason for that was William Shatner and Leonard Nimoy often objected to lines ("My character wouldn't say that", etc.). The logistics of the film's ending - Decker merging with V'Ger - was improvised more or less on the spot.
