In the comic storyline "Death of the Mighty Thor", similar to the film, the continued use of Mjolnir was draining Jane's strength despite protecting her from the cancer and her last transformation into the Mighty Thor eventually lead to her death just like in the film. One major difference is that while in the film Jane remained dead, in the comics Odin revived her, and afterwards Jane was able to go to chemotherapy to overcome her breast cancer.
