Rikku Rakesh Nath barged into Manmohan Desai's office and pleaded with him to sign Ranjeeta opposite Rishi Kapoor. Desai told Rikku he was not interested as he had heard Ranjeeta was hooked on drugs. Plus Rishi was refusing films with her and the casting would not work . Rikku would not budge and kept begging Desai to sign Ranjeeta. Even telling him to pay her what ever he liked. Manmohan Desai heard about the financial part and got tempted. He finally gave in and told Rikku to get Ranjeeta to come to his office. Ranjeeta was shooting in Shimla for Haadsa. She needed to meet Desai within 1 day to finalize the role. But Akbar Khan selfishly refused to let her go. The role ended up going to Kim. Another version was that Ranjeeta had signed the film and Manmohan Desai needed immediate dates. This included Ranjeeta to give preferred treatment to Naseeb over her other films. Ranjeeta Kaur told Manmohan Desai that Naseeb was just like any other film of hers. This angered Desai and he removed her from the film.
