Actor Mindy Cohn lamented in a Huffington Post article that she could not audition for Saint Elmo's Fire while she was on Facts of Life in 1985 because NBC would not let her out of her contract. However, while she was up for Wendy Beamish, the role went to Mare Winningham and said she missed out on many opportunities because of Facts of Life's rigorous schedule for nine years. She did, however, appear in the 1986 feature film The Boy Who Could Fly during this period.
