The Remans, who debut in this film, are a side species of the Romulans, and live on Romulus' moon Remus. According to Roman legend, the founders of the city of Rome were two brothers named Romulus and Remus. The only reference made to planet Remus in Star Trek lore before this film was a star chart of the Romulan system in the episode Star Trek: Balance of Terror (1966), where Remus was alternatively called "Romii". However, the Remans have since been retroactively introduced in the Star Trek timeline when they appeared in the episode Enterprise: United (2005).
